Jami Lee Ross full name Jami Lee Matenga Ross, is a New Zealand politician. He was born on 10 December in New Zealand.
Ross attended Dilworth School, then Pakuranga College, but left without formal qualifications. He trained at Ardmore Flying School and holds a commercial pilot’s licence from April 2012. He has also studied towards a politics and economics degree at the University of Auckland.
He started his Political career in 2003 when he joined the National Party. The following year in 2004 at the age of 18, he was elected to the Manukau City Council and worked as an electorate secretary in Pakuranga for MP Maurice Williamson.
In the Auckland local elections of 2010, he stood for a place on the new Auckland Council and won a seat for the Howick ward. He was also elected co-leader of the Citizens & Ratepayers ticket. After he was elected to parliament in the March 2011 Botany by-election, he resigned from the Council on 7 March 2011.
He has been the Member of Parliament for the Botany electorate in Auckland since the March 2011 Botany by-election. He became the youngest Member of Parliament at the time.
On 15 October 2018, National Leader Simon Bridges stated that Ross had been identified as the National Party leaker after the party’s inquiry into the Simon Bridges expense leak. Ross denied the accusations and issued a series of tweets prior to the press conference alleging that Bridges had attempted to silence him for speaking out against his leadership decisions including an election donation that allegedly broke the law.
Ross left the National Party on 16 October 2018 and said he would resign as the MP for Botany on 19 October and contest the resulting by-election as an independent candidate.
