Helen Baxter is a hobby potter who makes handmade stoneware pieces thrown on a wheel in the Kent countryside. She is a retired headteacher and contestant on The Great Pottery Throw Down 2023. She is the owner of Helen Baxter Ceramics in a small village in Kent wedged between the countryside and the sea.
Helen had a great career as a teacher and headteacher and, when retirement loomed, she decided to take up a new hobby. “I’d always wanted to try pottery so decided to give it a go. I was soon hooked and converted my garage into a lovely little studio where I now make all my pots.”
Helen has travelled the world, both for work and pleasure. The hobby potter has worked in Nassau, Bahamas for six years and frequently visits her brother and his family in Australia. She has also visited India, America, Japan, Norway, Germany, New Zealand, Tasmania, South America and Thailand. She loves spending time in Crete and the Greek Islands.
The 65-year-old potter lives in a small village in Kent. Her work has been influenced by the surrounding countryside and coastline.
Most recently, Helen had the opportunity to showcase her skills and take on the challenges presented to her on The Great Pottery Throwdown 2023.
