Hayley Leake is a physiotherapist and a doctoral candidate at the University of South Australia (UniSA) under the supervision of Professor Lorimer Moseley. She is a member of the pain research group headed by Dr James McAuley, and the Centre for Pain IMPACT at Neuroscience Research Australia (NeuRA).
Her doctoral research centres around optimising pain education interventions for adolescents with chronic pain. Hayley’s research includes a systematic review exploring mechanisms of treatments for paediatric pain; a Delphi-survey for consensus on learning objectives of adolescent pain science education; and a mixture of qualitative studies exploring how youth and their parents understand pain. Hayley’s research has been presented at national (Australian Pain Society) and international conferences (International Symposium on Pediatric Pain).
Her research involves collaborations with children’s pain researchers at Stanford University, as well as experts in statistical methods for mechanistic research at Oxford University. Hayley holds a research assistant position at Neuroscience Research Australia (NeuRA) in Sydney.
Hayley graduated with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Class I Honours) from the University of South Australia in 2012. Upon completion, she worked clinically at the Royal Adelaide Hospital for five years before returning to study a PhD.

Researcher Hayley Leake is the winner of Australian Survivor: Brains Vs Brawn. She won the title of sole survivor and $500,000 in prize money. “I survived 48 days, I made massive blindsides and I was a physical beast out here,” Hayley said after her win. “I’m proud of being able to come out here and play a really big strategic game. I didn’t want to hide in the shadows, I wanted to make big moves from the start, and I did that.”
Hayley took to Instagram to celebrate her win. She wrote: “Playing Survivor was a childhood dream that I never thought was possible. I have always been that person, sitting on the couch at home, yelling to the players through the TV to make a move. It is surreal that now I am the Sole Survivor!
“Thanks to all the fans that keep this show alive. Your support has been unbelievable and I am so grateful. A huge thanks to all the incredible players this season. Although Survivor is a cut-throat game, I have no doubt I am walking away with lifelong friends.
“King George, Survivor has never seen a player like you. I am so proud to stand by your side, to call you a friend, and to have shared this incredible journey together.”
She wrote on Twitter: “There are no words. I am so grateful to have had the chance to play. I didn’t apply for years because I thought, “I’m just an ordinary girl, there is nothing special about me”. And now here I stand, as the Sole Survivor.”

Australian Survivor star Hayley Leake is engaged to boyfriend Jimmy Meegan. Hayley shared the exciting news of her engagement with TV Week and admitted while there was no proposal involved, it was a “joint decision to take that next step together”. “We went and chose a ring together and then chose a nice day that we could make it formal,” she told TV Week.
