Hal Ketchum full name Hal Michael Ketchum, was an American country music Singer-songwriter. He began his music career at age 15, performing as a drummer with an R&B trio in small clubs before eventually making his way to Texas and launching a career as a singer-songwriter, before relocating to Nashville.

He’d later sign with Curb Records and in 1991 released his debut album, “Past the Point of Rescue”. His debut single “Small Town Saturday Night” and the album’s title track both charted at No. 2 on Billboard’s Country Songs chart in the early ’90s. He’d later see success with subsequent singles “Sure Love,” “I Know Where Love Lies” and “Five O’ Clock World,” all of which became top 20 hits for the singer.

He released 11 albums since 1986 and hit No. 2 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts three times with “Small Town Saturday Night,” “Past the Point of Rescue” and “Hearts Are Gonna Roll.” He also collaborated with big names in the music industry such as Dolly Parton, Shelby Lynne, and LeAnn Rimes.

Ketchum also appeared in the 1988 film “Heartbreak Hotel” and made a cameo as a bank robber in 1994′s “Maverick” with Mel Gibson and James Garner. He was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 1994.

“Dear friends and fans of Hal, this is Andrea, Hal’s wife. I know everyone is wondering why there are no future tour dates, and speculations as to the reason.

“Our family would like to share the cause for this. Unfortunately, Hal is suffering from Alzheimer’s/ Dementia. He has been battling this for some time now, but because of his love for his fans, he continued performing as long as it was possible. Dementia is an exhausting and confusing illness and now it’s time for Hal to stay home with loved ones.

“Hal is otherwise healthy and happy, enjoying time with his family and friends. We all deeply appreciate how much love that you all have for Hal and how much his music means to you!

“Also, a heartfelt thank you to all the incredible musicians that have joined him on this journey, with more than special love to Kenny Grimes, without whom , this last year of shows would not have been possible. Please know that I do read all of your comments to Hal and that we will continue to check in from time to time. Lots of love and appreciation to you all from Hal and the entire Ketchum family. ❤”

Hal Ketchum died on November 23, 2020, at the age of 67. His passing was announced on his official Facebook page. His wife Andrea wrote: “With great sadness and grief we announce that Hal passed away peacefully last night (Monday, Nov. 23) at home due to complications of Dementia. May his music live on forever in your hearts and bring you peace.”
