Georgia Sommerin is a Welsh chef working as head chef at Michelin-starred restaurant Home in Penarth. She was a contestant on the Great British Menu series 15 in 2020 and series 18 in 2023. She holds the record for the is the youngest competitor ever on the Great British Menu. Her classic cooking style is inspired by local Welsh produce, uplifting the areas where she grew up.

She’s been working in a professional kitchen since the age of 13 and full time since 2016 under the watchful eye of her father, Michelin starred chef James Sommerin. Initially Georgia wanted to make some pocket money but she soon fell in love with cooking as a career and is now Head Chef at Home in Penarth, Wales.

Georgia Sommerin is a contestant on series 18 of the Great British Menu. The theme for this year’s competition is inspired by Paddington’s 65th birthday and a celebration of British animation and illustration – from cartoons to comics to computer games.

Georgia’s mission for GBM is to inspire female chefs to get into the industry, and to do what her dad couldn’t and make it all the way to the banquet!

Her menu celebrates famous Welsh S4C animation heroes, Superted and Fireman Sam. On how Georgia prepared for the animation theme, she told Women In the Food Industry: “Just sitting down and Googling different animations in Wales and going for which ones I liked the story lines for. Coming up with a dish that is linked to the brief is the hardest part. It is very tricky you think that you’ve got something and then doesn’t work, so it’s trial and error.”

Georgia Sommerin is the daughter of famed chef James Sommerin and Louise Sommerin. Father and daughter chef duo James and Georgia cook at Michelin-starred Home, in Penarth. They are so in sync that they can communicate with one another using only eye contact. So impressive is their serenity while working in the open kitchen of their family-run restaurant that people get “mesmerised” watching them, James Sommerin told The Guardian.

He describes his daughter as “my right hand”. “We don’t necessarily have to talk to each other,” he said. “It’s literally a look. She knows that I’ve got her back 110% and vice versa.”
