Fabiola Ladino is a Colombian potter and The Great Pottery Throwdown 2023 contestant. She is the owner of Fab’s Ceramics Pottery, an online shop for handmade and unique ceramics made in London, England, United Kingdom.

Fabiola has always had a thing for pottery from a young age. However, after being diagnosed with autoimmune, pain-related diseases it was really difficult to dive into her passion.

“It was only until around 2018 when I bought myself a little block of clay to play with that I realised I had discovered something exciting. I signed myself up to pottery classes and quickly found myself to be pretty good at it. What’s more is that practising pottery actually felt incredibly therapeutic and did very well in reducing the pains I felt in my body on a daily basis, which was an incredible revelation for my health.”

More recently, Fabiola opened up an online shop and even participated in The Great Pottery Throwdown as a contestant on Channel 4.

In November 2022, Fabiola’s love for pottery took her on a journey to her home country of Colombia.

“My love for pottery, a wonderful art, has taking me on a journey to my home country, Colombia,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “My first stop is a town called La Chamba, located at about 4 hours from the Capital in the Tolima region. Although it is small town, it is Internationally recognised for its beautiful and unique handmade ceramics and the collective help to protect our environment.”

“I had the honour of meeting one of the Artisan whom was very kind to welcome me into her home and practise some pottery together. We talked about her commitment to maintain her traditions in pottery and how important that was for her. She achieves this through her pottery school called ‘ Manos de Oro ‘ which translates to ‘ Hands of Gold’. At her school she teaches people about her ancestors and the importance to continue their legacy through ceramics.

“Unfortunately my time at La Chamba was very short but I learnt so much and felt so glad to have discovered this incredible pottery gem in Colombia.”

Colombian potter Fabiola Ladino is a contestant on series 6 of The Great Pottery Throw Down on Channel 4. She revealed the exciting news of being part of The Great Pottery Throw Down in an Instagram post. She wrote: “I am so excited to let you know that I will be on The Great Pottery Throwdown 2023 @potterythrow , on @channel4, starting Jan 8th 19:45 (UK time).

“I am so so happy as a Colombian Potter, to be able to share this amazing art on such a big stage alongside some incredibly talented individuals.

“I also hoped I could play a small part in raising awareness for other people like me who suffer from auto-immune diseases and can use pottery as a form of therapy and enjoy the more positive side of life.”
