Enya Ayisha is a mapping driver from North Wales and a contestant on MasterChef UK 2024. She studied in Policing and Criminal Investigations in the University of Chester and then went on to do a Masters in Liverpool.
Enya worked as a waitress when she was younger. She told the BBC about her earliest cooking memory: “I will always remember baking with my Aunty Lilian from a very young age – around three or four. I used to love putting on my baking pinny, which I still have in a drawer, and baking lemon and chocolate butterfly cakes. My favourite part was the chocolate buttercream and lemon curd left in the bowl!
As I grew older I didn’t really have a sweet tooth so I focused my cooking on all of the savoury foods I love and learnt from watching my dad cook growing up.”
Describing her style of cooking, she said: “I’m a little bit of a perfectionist when it comes to cooking and I always take pride in my presentation. I love hearing feedback on it, like “this looks too good to cut into or eat.
I like to make do with whatever ingredients I have between the cupboard and fridge and make something taste good. Or I’ll go to the supermarket reduced aisle and hope there’s a good bit of meat or fish in there and let my brain work a little to decide what dish to make.
I’m always challenging myself to make something from scratch, whether it be pasta, pastry, dipping sauces; or different cuisines like Indian, Thai, or Chinese. I think there are a few different influences on my cooking style. Overall, my cooking style comes from my dad and sisters – we all love cooking! My presentation is inspired a lot by a restaurant I worked at when I was younger as a waitress. I always appreciated the way dishes were plated up and I learnt a lot from that.”

26-year-old Enya Ayisha is a contestant on the 20th series of MasterChef UK on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. She is among the contestants cooking for judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace in the third heat of MasterChef 2024, alongside Charlie, Lee Jenkins, Peter Le, Saffron Hodgson and Shreya Tiwari.
Enya was encouraged to apply for MasterChef by friends and family. She said: “My sister Leah and her boyfriend, Anthony, pushed me to do it. Anthony actually started my application! I was nervous but it is such a great opportunity. I’ll forever be thankful that he did. I was full of different emotions about going on the show, but it is the best experience I could have ever asked for.”
She told the BBC about her earliest MasterChef memories: “I have been watching MasterChef for a long time now and l watch whenever I can. My favourite thing about watching MasterChef is to see how wonderfully peoples’ minds can work. I like being creative with food, so I’m always really interested in how others think when it comes to cooking and plating up.”
