Donny Van Slee is a full-time chiropractor and songwriter from Weeki Wachee, Florida. He currently resides in Nashville. He is also a contestant on the 25th season of The Voice.

Donny says his interest in music started young. He and his siblings would sing together while traveling in their grandparents’ car. Donny started taking music more seriously in sixth grade when he got a guitar for Christmas.

He grew up along the west coast of Florida and started performing at local breweries, restaurants, and tiki huts after graduating high school in 2011. He has been working hard to make music ever since he was entranced by the city during a trip there.

The chiropractor has already released singles, his first album — “31” — dropped on February 23, 2024.

Three days after the premiere, the Nashville-based musician launched a series of five shows in Texas. It was his first-ever road tour, he said on social media.

Speaking to Canvas Rebel, he stated that he had intentions of opening a chiropractic office in his home state of Florida after graduating. His plans changed on a trip to Colorado, where he was heading to start a chiropractic internship. His GPS routed him through the heart of Nashville.

He ultimately wound up auditioning at Tootsies Orchid Lounge and was hired to perform three to five days a week. So that is what he has been doing while working as an associate in someone else’s chiropractic office.

His influences range from country artists like Tyler Childers and Zach Bryan to “Islander-beachy artists like Jack Johnson. So you’ll hear a mix” of those two styles in his music.

Donny has nine singles out, including three from 2023 — “God Too,” “Until Then” and “Country Girl in You.” And while “31” will be his debut album, he released a five-song EP called “Sip on Me” in 2022.

He is a contestant on the 25th season of The Voice. He competed on the show besides Gene Taylor, Donny Van Slee, Nathan Chester, Gabriel Goes, Josh Sanders, and Karen Waldrup.

For his Audition song, Van Slee chose LANCO’s “Greatest Love Story,” a song that allowed him to show off his raspy, country-heavy vocal tone with a lot of enthusiasm and style.

Right away, Reba McEntire turned her chair, but she didn’t just hit the turn button. She hit the Block button on fellow country stars Dan + Shay, who were so busy discussing Van Slee’s “potential” that they didn’t notice their chair turn was negated. It’s a textbook use of the Block button on the show, allowing McEntire to cut off her country’s competition before they could even weigh in.

“We, for the first time, have three chairs filled by country Artists, and they all turned for you,” Legend said.

“We tried,” Shay Mooney replied. Dan Smyers added, “If anybody’s gonna block us…the Queen Reba, it’s OK.”

Smyers continued, “That’s a great song choice for you too, that’s just a great rootsy kinda thing. Bummed we didn’t get you, we got blocked by Reba. You’re in good hands.”

Then, after a quick handshake from Chance the Rapper (who said he regretted not turning once he’d seen Van Slee’s “energy”), it was McEntire’s turn.

When I heard you, my first thought was ‘Block them,’ because I knew they were gonna go for it so quick,” McEntire said, happy to add yet another country Artist to her growing Season 25 team.

As he went off to get some Reba Tenders, he heard a little more from Dan + Shay. “Donny, we’re gonna steal you later, brother,” Smyers said.
