Christie Whelan Browne Baby

Australian actress Christie Whelan Browne welcomed her first child with her husband Rohan Browne in March 2021. The musical theatre star announced the arrival of her son, Duke August Whelan Browne, via Instagram.

“Duke August Whelan Browne, the latest love of our lives, arrived Monday morning March 1st, weighing 8 pounds of the softest skin I’ve ever had the pleasure of sniffing,” she captioned her post.

“The bubble of love is so magical. Duke is obsessed with his Daddy. (Rohan is so natural and TOTALLY smitten and even though Duke can barely see yet – he looks at Rohan with this love that makes my heart sing). I still can’t believe I’m a Mum and my body made this incredible human being!

“I want to shout out to Tessa at @baysidebirthing for guiding us through labour. And teaching us to be open to whatever happens, as long as you can make it a positive experience. My labour did not go according to my best laid plan, and yet the breathing techniques she taught us, and the way in which she helped Rohan advocate for me in the room- meant that it was the most positive experience it could have been.

“All the incredible midwives at [St Vincent’s Private Baby] who made those first few days of learning and understanding how to be parents as smooth as possible- showing so much support (and also commented on how Rohan is one of the most helpful partners they have ever seen- I’m so lucky to have him. And so is Duke).

“Thank you again to you ALL for all the love and support on this very long road to the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.”

Christie has bravely opened up about fertility struggles in the past.

“There’s a lot of shame around infertility. It makes you question your womanhood and it’s very hard to remove,” she told the Sydney Morning Herald in July 2020. “But I’d say shame should be reserved for things we’ve done wrong. This is not something to be ashamed of.”

Actress Christie Whelan Browne was a contestant in the twentieth season of Dancing with the Stars (DWTS) Australia. She was partnered with professional dancer Craig Monley.

DWTS was an irresistible offer when it came – too good to refuse, despite the difficulties it posed.

“I’d always dreamt of being on the show, and when the call came in it was probably not the perfect time,” Christie told The Sydney Morning Herald. “I had a two-year-old, I really needed a bit of a break from work – but you just can’t say no. So I just jumped at the chance and thought, we’ll work out the rest later.”

The combination of DWTS’s famously brutal training regime and the demands of everyday life took their toll.

“It’s been gruelling, to say the least,” she added. “It’s been hard: parenting, we moved interstate during the time, and dancing and injuries and illness.” Those injuries (“a new one every week”) included back, ankle and rib. By the end of her stint on the show, “my ribs were not in a good way”.

Actress Christie Whelan Browne accused actor Craig McLachlan of sexually assaulting her while on set together. Christie alleged in 2018 that McLachlan, her co-star during a 2014 stage production of The Rocky Horror Show, sexually assaulted her while they were performing a scene in bed.

McLachlan sensationally sued for defamation and denied the allegations. He dropped the lawsuit, citing the impact it was having on his family and his own mental health. McLachlan was required to pay all legal costs, totalling to about $2 million.
