Cammy Barnes, real name Cameron Barnes, is a Scottish singer-songwriter and semi-finalist in Britain’s Got Talent (BGT) 2023. He is also a successful recording musician, his singles Chasing Love & Just Smile featured in the UK Top 50 and #1 in the World Music iTunes charts.

As a multi-instrumentalist he has toured the world, teaching and performing with the Red Hot Chilli Pipers and Tom Walker. He recently founded his own folk/rock band, Break The Butterfly, which he fronts.

Cammy trained at the Aberdeen City Music School and the National Centre of Excellence in Plockton, and once considered joining the Army. However, as his application progressed, he secured a job within the second cast of the National Theatre of Scotland’s Black Watch production. He made his theatre debut in Black Watch for the National Theatre of Scotland in 2010 and returned to appear in The James Plays trilogy in 2014.

He is the owner of Barney’s Barber Shop in Methil and Anstruther. In March 2023, Cammy cut the hair of the Scottish rugby team less than 24 hours before he sang on the Murrayfield turf ahead of Scotland’s Six Nations clash with Italy.

Fife singer Cammy Barnes is a contestant in the sixteenth series of Britain’s Got Talent. After getting off to a nervous start in his audition, Cammy was handed a second chance and went on to impress with his rendition of Drivers License by Olivia Rodrigo. He received a standing ovation from all four judges.

After his performance on the ITV show, Simon Cowell said: “I think it was a good choice of song, I always like it when someone puts a twist on someone else’s song.”

Amanda Holden told him: “It was authentic and real and I know how much it means to you and for all of those reasons it made for a beautiful version.”

Alesha Dixon commented: “You do have the most beautiful tone and i love that raspiness, I think you’re a great guy, I love your personality and I hope something comes from this.”

Bruno Tonioli shared: “You really sing with your heart and the second time when you let it go a little bit and didn’t try too hard, it became even more real.”

Cammy described what it was like to receive a standing ovation from the four Britain’s Got Talent judges.

He said: “It felt very surreal receiving a standing ovation from the judges. After working so hard for so long chasing my dream, it was amazing to have that recognised and have approval from the judges. It was a very overwhelming and emotional moment and one that I will never forget.

“To have people react in such a positive way to you performing just gives you that fire back to keep going and push it even further the next time – there’s nothing better than watching people enjoy what you do.”

On social media he said: “Just before I went on stage at my audition it hit me that this opportunity could actually make or break that dream. I honestly crumbled with nerves. This has never happened to me before but it’s because I care. I honestly feel so blessed with all the lovely comments and I can’t wait for the weeks ahead. I’m so ready.”
