Bongani Mavuso Biography – Bongani Mavuso Wiki
Bongani Mavuso was a South African journalist, producer, author and poet. He hosted the popular current affairs show “Abasiki Bebunda and Ezangempelasonto” on uKhozi FM.
Born in Dumbe, Mavuso was also an award-winning author, poet and recipient of the Literary Journalism Award. In September 2022, his poem Intsika Yethongo walked away with a 2nd runner-up prize at the Avbob Poetry Competition. He published books in Zulu and English that include Izimbali ZeMfolozi, Inhlantsi, and The Undying Spirit of a Dead Man.

Ukhozi FM presenter Bongani Mavuso passed away on Tuesday, 27 September 2022, at the age of 45. He was set to celebrate his 46th birthday on Thursday 29 September 2022. In his last social media post on September 14, Mavuso said: “As I celebrate my birthday on the 29th, my goal is to stay connected with GOD, healthy, wise, strong and financially stable. Yes, I believe in WEALTH CREATION. Ngi-ye-ma lapho!!! #kamavusogroup.”
Bongani Mavuso Death
Ukhozi FM presenter Bongani Mavuso died at a hospital in Umhlanga, KwaZulu-Natal, on Tuesday, 27 September 2022, following a short illness. His brother, Majuba Mavuso, confirmed to SowetanLIVE. Mavuso was admitted at the hospital on Monday 26 September 2022.
“Bongani was rushed to hospital yesterday (Monday) but we did not think it will be serious. His death has come as a shock to us as the family,” said Majuba. “Bongani passes on after he had recovered [from previous illness]. There was a time when he was sick in 2019, where he collapsed while broadcasting. He got better. This weekend he was on air doing his show. We are hurt as the family.”

“Affectionately known as “Donga LaMavuso” the multi-faceted Mavuso was a seasoned award-winning journalist, radio presenter, author, publisher, poet and businessman. He was not only a community builder who honed the skills of young and upcoming poets by giving them a platform to showcase their talents, but he also took pride in the preservation of Nguni languages.
