Berenike Trytsman (Berry) is a South African singer and contestant on season 17 of Idols SA. On 14 November 2021, Berry and Karabo Mathe were announced as the top two finalists. They wowed the audience and judges with their new singles. Berry impressed the judges with her Zulu single, “Ungowami”.
The 31-year-old said this was her last chance to enter Idols due to her age. She said: “This is my last chance on Idols since I was 30 when I entered. At a certain age you start thinking, can I still do this? I wanted to prove to myself that I can and set a good example for my kids.”
The singer, whose real name is Berenike Trytsman, harbours the dream of buying a bigger home for her husband and children if she wins the R1 million prize. She said: “I actually lost my job for a year when Covid hit in March 2020 and we relied on the kindness of others and God to bring us through. So if I win, I will make sure that everyone who helped us gets something back to say thank you. I would also love a house with more rooms for all our kids who right now share a room.”
