Ayako Uehara is a Japanese professional golfer who plays on the LPGA Tour and LPGA of Japan Tour. She made her way onto the LPGA Tour on her first attempt and hails from the same region of Japan as current LPGA Tour players Ai and Mika Miyazato. Uehara has three international professional victories, all on the JLPGA. She finished third at the LPGA’s 2012 Mizuno Classic.

Born in Naha City, Okinawa, Uehara took part in various sports such as soccer and swimming. Influenced by her father, she started playing golf at the age of 12. At the age of 15, she won the Japan Junior Golf Championship, and at the age of 18, she won the Japan Women’s Amateur Golf Championship. Uehara also represented Japan at the 2002 Asian Games in Busan, where she won a team silver medal together with Ai Miyazato and Sakura Yokomine.

Uehara turned professional in 2004. She has three international professional victories, all on the JLPGA. She won the 2008 Fuji Sankei Ladies Classic, her first Tour victory in a come-from-behind victory by overturning a five-shot lead. The golfer won the 2009 Yokohama Tire. She won the PRGA Ladies Cup golf tournament. In 2011, she won her third career win at the Nichi-Iko Women’s Open Golf Tournament.

Outside of golf, she has been involved in the early detection and eradication of breast cancer (Pink Ribbon) since she first entered the professional league, and she does a charity of 1,000 yen per birdie.

Since 2009, she has also started her Yubi fund-raising campaign, increasing the number of supporters of this activity, and various other social contribution activities as her life work.

Uehara also works with Okinawa Kuminosato, a retreat center for restoring the health of children exposed to the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident and/or who still live in contaminated areas.
