Austin Eckroat Biography – Austin Eckroat Wiki
Austin Eckroat is an American professional golfer who plays on the PGA Tour. He is chasing his first PGA Tour victory at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson at TPC Craig Ranch in Dallas.
Eckroat, who grew up wearing Swinging Pete logos to every tournament, won a high school state championship at Karsten Creek as a freshman, and shortly after he committed to the Cowboys. His love for the school was a big reason why Austin didn’t turn pro in 2020. Another incentive to staying in school was PGA Tour University, which began in 2021, granting status on the Korn Ferry Tour and the Tour’s other developmental tours to the top seniors at the end of the NCAA Championship.
Eckroat debuted at third in the PGA Tour U rankings and never dropped out of the top five all season. He was joined by Florida State’s John Pak, Georgia’s Davis Thompson, Arizona State’s Kevin Yu and Oklahoma’s Garett Reband as the top five players who were exempted for at least eight events on the Korn Ferry Tour and also received a ticket into final stage of KFT Q-School.
On May 20, 2021, Eckroat announced that he would be turning pro following nationals, capping a decorated career in Stillwater that’s included two victories, 15 top-10s and four All-America honors. He also was a part of the Cowboys’ 2018 NCAA title-winning team.
“Oklahoma State has shaped and molded me into a man that I believe, and hopefully others believe, would make my parents proud,” Eckroat wrote in his farewell post. “I cannot thank Coach Bratton, and Coach Darr enough for the countless amount of hours they have spent with me over the last four years and making me the man I am today. It has been fun to see the relationships turn from coach-athlete to friendship. I will be forever thankful for them giving me an opportunity to come play at the school of my dreams.”
“I’ve had 22 teammates throughout my time here, and it has been an honor playing alongside all of them. Playing golf at Oklahoma State was a goal of mine for as long as I can remember. The list would be never ending if I thanked everyone who has helped me along this journey of mine, so thank you to everyone. Leaving this place will be very bittersweet.”
“Following this season I will be turning professional, and I can’t wait to represent Oklahoma State well.”
Eckroat made his pro debut at the 2021 BMW Charity Pro-Am in Greer, South Carolina.
Eckroat, chasing his first PGA Tour win and a place in the USPGA Championship, heads into the final round of the AT&T Byron Nelson near Dallas tied with China’s Zecheng Dou and fellow American Ryan Palmer. They hold a two-stroke cushion over home favourite Scottie Scheffler, former USPGA champion Jason Day, Si Woo Kim and Sweden’s Vincent Norrman with England’s Tyrrell Hatton among those a shot further back.
Eckroat mixed seven birdies and a double bogey in his front nine and had no doubts about what winning would mean.
“A lot of job security,” he said. “A lot of things come with winning a PGA Tour event and just hoping to get that done.”
