Amy Lou Smith Britain’s Got Talent

Tipton singer Amy Lou Smith is a finalist in Series 16 of Britain’s Got Talent. In her audition, Amy wowed both the judges and audience of the ITV show when she performed Beyoncé’s 2006 powerhouse hit Listen from the film Dreamgirls.

On Monday’s (29.05.23) live semi-final, Amy sang ‘And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going’ from the musical ‘Dreamgirls’. Amy and dancer Musa Motha became the first BGT 2023 finalists.

The two incredible acts fought off stiff competition from United 2 Dance, Gamal John, Ichikawa, Enzo Weyne, Parkour Collective and Abi Carter-Simpson.

Musa won the public vote and went straight through, while Amy Lou and Abi found themselves facing the judges’ decision. Bruno Tonioli and Amanda Holden chose to send through Amy Lou, while Simon Cowell and Alesha Dixon voted for Abi. This left the decision up to whoever had achieved the highest public vote, with Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly revealing it was Amy Lou.

Following her victory

Following her victory in the semi-final, the star reflected she needed to have kids in order to strive for her dreams.

Speaking on ITV’s Lorraine, she told stand-in host Ranvir Singh: “It’s definitely a whirlwind to say the least, but an amazing one! It’s took me to have my children to … I want them to believe that one day if they’ve got dreams – just do it!

“I could sing before I could properly talk, it’s just something you’re kind of born with. But there was so much talent on that stage last night, it was anybody’s . For me, just making those semi-finals was enough so to be in the final, nothing seems real to me. Nothing! It’s all for them, I’m doing this for my children.”

Though Amy’s dad, Andy Smith, revealed to BBC WM his daughter planned to hit her highest ever note and hold it for nine seconds in her final performance on the show, she wouldn’t be drawn on the name of the song.

Britain’s Got Talent 2023 finalists will perform on Sunday, June 4, 2023. The winner will perform in front of King Charles at the Royal Variety Performance and take home £250,000.
