Aljaz Skorjanec is a professional dancer and choreographer from Ptuj, Slovenia. He is known for his appearances as a professional dancer in the British television dance contest, Strictly Come Dancing. On March 28, 2022, Aljaz announced via his Instagram handle that he was leaving the show after a nine years tenure with the BBC series Strictly Come Dancing as a professional dancer. Aljaz started dancing and competing at an early age, he is a 19-time Slovenian champion in Ballroom, Latin, and Ten Dance. During his professional dancing career, the Slovenian dancer was partnering with his fellow Slovenia Valerija Rahle Mbanwi. Some of his professional career highlights include recording top ten finishes in the 2004 World Championship in Moscow, Russia, 2004 World Championship in Lloret de Mar, Spain, at the 2005 World Championship in Maribor, Slovenia, and in the 2006 International Open in Ashdod, Israel.

It went like this… We would like to offer you a position on @bbcstrictly as a professional dancer. A dream became a reality and it was the biggest opportunity for a 23 year old boy from Slovenia. It didn’t matter how many beautiful ballrooms I performed in during my competitive career, stepping onto the sacred Strictly floor was the most nervous I had ever been.”
He added “A little while ago I made the tough decision that Strictly 2021 would be my last. The show has given me an opportunity and freedom to create and express myself in front of millions of people every weekend for the last 9 years. Being a part of a group of professionals that inspire and push you to be better every step of the way is humbling and I will carry that inspiration with me forever. Every year the lineup of dancers would change but one thing stayed the same, WE WERE THE BEST! And this is one thing that I know will never change on Strictly!”
