Alber Elbaz Biography – Alber Elbaz Wiki

Alber Elbaz (born Albert Elbaz) was an Israeli fashion designer. He was the creative director of Lanvin from 2001 until 2015. Prior to joining Lanvin as creative director, he worked at Guy Laroche, Yves Saint Laurent, and Geoffrey Beene. In 2019, Elbaz announced that he was launching his own label, AZ Factory — a partnership with luxury conglomerate Richemont — a company aimed at producing smart women’s fashion by blending traditional craftsmanship with technology.

Elbaz was born in Casablanca, Morocco, on June 12, 1961, and grew up in Israel. After studying design at Shenkar College of Engineering, Design and Art in Tel Aviv in the mid-1980s and a brief stint in the Israeli army, he moved to New York, where he removed the T from his first name so that it would not be mispronounced, and because “Alber Elbaz,” he thought, made for a more balanced brand name.

The Moroccan-born Israeli fashion designer launched his fashion career in 1985, working in New York with designer Geoffrey Beene. In 1996, he became the design director at Guy Laroche in Paris, before joining Yves Saint Laurent as creative director of its ready-to-wear brand Rive Gauche. In 2001, he joined Lanvin, where he earned critical and commercial success based on his principle of putting women first.

The fashion designer received the International Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America in 2005 and was named one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in 2007. In 2016, the French government named him an Officier of the Légion d’Honneur.
