Yuko Takeuchi was a Japanese actress. She is known for her roles in television series Asuka (1999), Pride (2004), FlashForward (2009) and Miss Sherlock (2018) as well as films such as Ring (1998), Yomigaeri (2003) and Dog in a Sidecar (2007).

Takeuchi was known for her array of works in film and television. She made her film debut with Innocent World in 1998. She later starred in Closed Note and Midnight Eagle in 2007, both of which were featured in overseas festivals. She also starred in the horror film, The Ring. Other works include the drama series Asuka, TBS drama Shiroi Kage and the film The Confidence Man JP- Episode of the Princess.

Takeuchi also portrayed the female Japanese Sherlock Holmes in the 2018 Hulu and HBO Asia drama Miss Sherlock. The series was broadcast in multiple countries including the U.S. During her career, she won the Japanese Academy Film Prize for outstanding performance by an actress in a leading role three years in a row. She won the award from 2004 to 2007, according to the Japanese news agency Kyodo News.

Takeuchi was found dead on September 27, 2020, at 2 am (JST) at her home in Shibuya, Tokyo. Yuko Takeuchi’s husband, actor Taiki Nakabayashi, found her in bedroom in the apartment around 2 a.m. (JST), according to The Japan Times. She was taken to a hospital where she was confirmed dead. The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department has launched an investigation and suspects that Takeuchi took her own life. Her talent agency, Stardust Promotion Inc., said, “It came all of a sudden, and we are all stunned and saddened by the news.”
