Vanessa Tyson (Vanessa C. Tyson) is the woman accusing Justin Fairfax of sexually assaulting her during the DNC convention in Boston in 2004.
Tyson has a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University in politics, coupled with a certificate in African American Studies, and a M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in political science.
Vanessa Tyson has worked as an advocate for sexual violence awareness and prevention, serving as one of the founding members of the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center Survivor Speakers’ Bureau, and starting a self-esteem/self-awareness program for female juvenile offenders through the Department of Youth Services in the State of Massachusetts.

Vanessa Tyson shared a private Facebook message with a friend and then gave the friend permission to share it. Adria Scharf shared the message: “This is Vanessa Tyson’s private post she gave permission to share the screenshot of her post she is a professor at Scripps College now. Heartbreaking.”
The message read: “Imagine you were sexually assaulted during the DNC convention in Boston in 2004 by a campaign staffer and you spend the next 13 years trying to forget it ever happened until one day you find out he’s the Democratic candidate for statewide office in a state some 3000 miles away, and he wins that election in November 2017. Then by strange, horrible luck, it seems increasingly likely that he’ll get a very big promotion.”
Vanessa Tyson Detailed Statement
Vanessa Tyson issued a detailed statement on February 6 , 2019, saying that Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax of Virginia sexually assaulted her in 2004. Justin Fairfax is married to Dr. Cerina Fairfax.
The statement read in part: “What began as consensual kissing quickly turned into a sexual assault. Mr. Fairfax put his hand behind my neck and forcefully pushed my head towards his crotch. Only then did I realize that he had unbuckled his belt, unzipped his pants, and taken out his pen*s. He then forced his pen*s into my mouth. Utterly shocked and terrified, I tried to move my head away, but could not because his hand was holding down my neck and he was much stronger than me. As I cried and gagged, Mr. Fairfax forced me to perform 0ral sex on him. I cannot believe, given my obvious distress, that Mr. Fairfax thought this forced sexual act was consensual. To be very clear, I did not want to engage in oral sex with Mr. Fairfax and I never gave any form of consent. Quite the opposite. I consciously avoided Mr. Fairfax for the remainder of the Convention and I never spoke to him again.
Vanessa Tyson hired the law firm Katz, Marshall, & Banks to represent her. They also represented Christine Blasey Ford in her allegation against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
