Shaynna Blaze Biography – Shaynna Blaze Wiki

Shaynna Blaze is an Australian interior designer, TV personality, author, creative director, producer and gender equality advocate. She is best known for her television roles on Selling Houses Australia, The Block, Shaynna’s World of Design, Deadline Design and Buying Blind. She won Celebrity Apprentice Australia in 2021.

As a kid growing up in a happy family home in the eastern suburbs, she dreamed of being an actor and an air hostess but never a nurse! She told Domain: “I knew a few girls who wanted to be a nurse but I never wanted that. I thought an air hostess was so much more glamorous but I was too short. They had height restrictions then and I’m only 5 feet 3 (160 centimetres). It’s funny now because I spend so much of my time on planes anyway.”

At the end of high school, she thought about a fine arts course before switching to interior design. After studying design full-time for two years, she got her first job at the age of 20, working as a showroom designer for Reece Plumbing & Bathrooms.

She did it for four years, during which time she married and had daughter, Carly, and Jesse. When the children were four and five Shaynna’s marriage ended, prompting a new career – as a singer.

Shaynna began working for herself – taking on residential design projects – until a 2007 advertisement in a design newsletter caught her eye. That ad led to an audition tape and the offer of a job presenting and designing for Selling Houses Australia.

Her unerring eye for style has seen her establish her Interior Design business Blank Canvas Interiors, design beautiful products for brands including Molmic, Urban Road, Harris Scarfe and One World Lighting, has authored two books on interior design, and has penned regular columns on design, style and interiors for the likes of Stellar Magazine, The Herald Sun, and Grand Designs Magazine.

Shaynna is a passionate advocate for women, and a social justice campaigner who has leant her voice to a number of organisations tackling domestic violence in Australia including Kids Under Cover and Safe Steps.

Shaynna has MCd candlelight vigils for women and children lost to family violence and presented keynotes at International Women’s Day events. And, she is the executive producer of The Fort, a feature film written and co-directed by her children Carly and Jess about one woman’s battle to escape her abusive marriage while attempting to shelter her son from the realities of domestic violence.

Interior designer Shaynna Blaze married her first husband at 23. She has a son, Jess Kenneally, and a daughter, Carly Kenneally, from her first marriage. Shaynna’s first marriage ended in divorce. The divorce was challenging.

She told Domain about the divorce: “I married at 23 and had a one-year-old by then. And the divorce was hard because his friends and my friends were the same people, and you go through that process of losing friends. But that naturally happens and I have no animosity about that time at all.”

Shaynna’s second marriage was to personal trainer Steve Vaughan for 18 years until the pair separated in August 2018. At the time, Shaynna wrote a brief statement about the ended marriage on Instagram, writing, “Sometimes in life, our paths change directions and now this is one of those times for me, with Steve and I separating. I will not be making any further statements about this and whilst I appreciate your support, I ask that you respect our right to privacy.”

Shaynna and Steve originally met at a Melbourne bar and hit it off right away, engaging in a whirlwind romance that saw them engaged 11 months later.

She told Domain: “Steve and I met at a bar in Melbourne that my girlfriend dragged me to. Because I was singing at that stage I hardly went out to bars at night – it was the last place I wanted to be. But that night my friend persuaded me to go out and my husband’s friends had dragged him along. It was meant to be.

“I had a bad habit then, if someone asked me for my phone number, of saying, ‘Yeah sure’ and making up a number. When Steve asked for my number, my friend grabbed me and said, ‘If you give him the wrong number I’ll kill you’. She saw he was a good one.

“Within two weeks we knew this was it. We were engaged within six months and married 11 months after we met. You meet the right person at the right time. They accept everything about you and you can be better than what you ever thought because you have that person next to you.”

“Dad had a massive shed and he loved to wallpaper and do craft and knit. He was a new-age man before his time. My friends would come home and dad would be knitting and he’d ask them if they wanted a jumper and then he’d make it for them. There was a stage where he did woodturning and we ended up with 25 cheese platters and bowls. When he did leadlighting, everyone got a leadlight window,” she told Domain.
