Sam McBratney Biography – Sam McBratney Wiki
Sam McBratney was a writer from Northern Ireland. He is best known as the author of the best-selling children’s book “Guess How I Much Love You”.
He earned a degree in history from Trinity College Dublin. After his graduation, he worked as a primary and secondary school teacher from 1970 until 1990, when he took early retirement to focus on writing. He wrote more than fifty books for children and young adults. His best-selling children’s book Guess How Much I Love You, has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide, and been translated into 53 languages.
He wrote “Guess How Much I Love You” after his publisher suggested he try a picture story. He told readingrockets.org, “I went back to a little fragment of an idea that I had used in an earlier book and I thought I really liked that little episode that would make a lovely picture book. And so I worked that up into a picture book. And I expected that picture book to go like all the others, all the other books, you know, might get five years out of it, might get six, then after that you’ll not be able to buy it in the shops anymore, you know.”
He wrote his first novel, Mark Time, in 1969. His other works include Jimmy Zest, Zesty, Put a Saddle on the Pig, The Chieftain’s Daughter, The Dark at the Top of the Stairs, ust You and Me, I’m Not Your Friend, You’re All My Favorites, I Love it When You Smile, When I’m Big, Colors Everywhere, Let’s Play In the Snow, The Adventures of Little Nutbrown Hare, and There, There.
