Renae Lawrence is an Australian former hospitality worker and panel beater. She was born on 11 October 1977 in Australia. She was convicted in Indonesia for drug trafficking as a member of the Bali Nine.

On 17 April 2005, Lawrence was arrested by Indonesian police at Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar with 2.689 kg (5.93 lb) of heroin strapped to her legs and chest, concealed underneath her clothing. Others arrested at the same time as Lawrence were Scott Rush, Michael Czugaj and Stephens.

After a criminal trial, she was sentenced on 13 February 2006 to life imprisonment. Her appeal to the Indonesian Supreme Court to have the life sentence reduced was successful, and on 26 April 2006 was given a sentence of 20 years’ imprisonment.

She was previously given a five-month remission of her sentence on Merdeka Day in 2009. Her earliest release date was in February 2026. In November 2018 her sentence was commuted, and she was scheduled for release and deportation on 21 November 2018.

Upon her return to Australia, she faces arrest by NSW Police, as there are still two warrants outstanding from the high-speed car chase in March 2005.

The Bali Nine is a group of of nine Australians convicted for attempting to smuggle 8.3 kg (18 lb) of heroin out of Indonesia in April 2005.

The Bali Nine Members consisted of Andrew Chan, Si Yi Chen, Michael Czugaj, Renae Lawrence, Tan Duc Thanh Nguyen, Matthew Norman, Scott Rush, Martin Stephens, and Myuran Sukumaran.

Ringleaders Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran were sentenced to death and executed on 29 April 2015. Si Yi Chen, Michael Czugaj, Tan Duc Thanh Nguyen, Matthew Norman, Scott Rush, and Martin Stephens were sentenced to life imprisonment, and Renae Lawrence to a 20-year sentence.

It was reported n 5 June 2018 by Indonesian authorities that Tan Duc Thanh Nguyen had died of stomach cancer.
