Rachel Munro is a Scottish entrepreneur, owner of Cafe Thyme on Alloway Street in Ayr and contestant on Gordon Ramsay’s Future Food Stars. She is the former owner of Baked Bakery.
Rachel was set to open her eco-cafe, Thyme on Ayr’s Alloway Street in March 2020 just days before the UK entered lockdown. The timing couldn’t have been worse, but the experienced entrepreneur who previously owned a bakeries and cafes in Ayr and Glasgow, dealt with the nightmare to emerge on the other side. Opening officially in July 2020, she has gone on to make her business a success in the heart of her home town.
Rachel told Ayrshire Live how her business survived Covid: “We originally intended to open in March but then the lockdown hit which meant we couldn’t open until July. It was a nightmare but we dug in and we survived Covid, we managed it well.
“This is my third or fourth business. I had a allergen specific bakery for five years. I then had another bakery in Ayr called Baked. Thyme is just a brunch and sandwich café, we just do days during the week but we open for evenings at the weekend.”

Rachel revealed her huge news on her Instagram page, writing, “After a whole year of keeping this secret, I can finally reveal that I am one of Gordon Ramsay’s Future Food Stars.”
Speaking about taking part in Future Food Stars, Rachel said: “Apart from the financial benefit, I wanted to go on Future Food Stars to prove a point to myself that I was able to showcase all the things I am good at. I also wanted to show my daughter that anything is possible if you put your mind to it and set an example to her to follow your dreams, no matter how big or unobtainable they may seem.”
