Pablo Larrazabal Biography – Pablo Larrazabal Wiki

Pablo Larrazabal is a Spanish professional golfer currently playing on the European Tour. Since coming through the Qualifying School in 2007 and winning the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year Award the following season, Larrazábal has had seven title wins on the European Tour.

Growing up, he worked on his family’s fish farm in Santander, Spain, and had to delay turning professional as a golfer because his father wanted him to know the value of hard work and the value of money. The golfer eventually turned professional in 2004.

Pablo won his first title on the European Tour at the Open de France in June 2008. In June 2011, the Spaniard won his second European Tour title at the BMW International Open in Munich. In January 2014, he won his third career title on the European Tour at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship. His fourth career title on the European Tour came in June 2015, when he won his second BMW International Open in Germany.

In December 2019, Pablo won his fifth title at the Alfred Dunhill Championship at Leopard Creek Country Club in South Africa. The event was co-sanctioned by the European Tour and the Sunshine Tour. The golfer claimed his sixth European Tour victory in March 2022 at the MyGolfLife Open in South Africa.

On Sunday, March 13, 2022, Pablo claimed his sixth DP World Tour title as he defeated Adri Arnaus and Jordan Smith in a play-off at the 2022 MyGolfLife Open hosted by Pecanwood Golf and Country Club in Hartbeespoort, South Africa. After the win, Pablo was eager to give credit to his older brother Alejandro Larrazábal, who won The Amateur Championship in 2002 and is now part of his team.

“My brother back home is not having the best time but he has a big piece of this,” he said. “The work we do back home is probably more important than the work we do here. The hours we put in on the range with my brother, sometimes it’s tough because when the results are not coming it is not easy to wake up early to go to a range so this piece of trophy is for him.”

In April 2022, Larrazabal claimed his seventh DP World Tour (formerly European Tour) title at the ISPS Handa Championship in Spain. The golfer reeled off five birdies in a row around the turn on his way to a 15-under finish, one shot clear of his fellow Spaniard Adrian Otaegui at the Lakes Course in Tarragona.

Larrazabal told DP World Tour after clinching his seventh DP World Tour title: “What a day. But I knew that my golf was there. I couldn’t make any putts the first three days but I told my girlfriend last night that she had to choose my clothing for the (winning) pictures. I knew that I had a low one in my bag and that’s what I did. Today I holed putts and that was key. I mean, to shoot 62 in windy conditions with the flags out there, it was good.

“I’m glad I got the seventh (title) at home. I live one hour and 15 minutes up the road and it’s very special to win in Spain, in front of a few friends of mine, and obviously in front of my girlfriend and my brother. So it’s not going to be the most emotional win in my career but it’s one of them.”

The couple married on 30th August 2015 in Barcelona. Sources claim they have since divorced.

Larrazabal had met Alten the week before he turned professional and while he was still working for his father on a family-owned fishing farm. Pablo Larrazabal proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Gala Alten, on Christmas Day 2014.

“It was easy to propose to Gala and much easier than the nerves I felt in Abu Dhabi last year in winning my third event on the European Tour because we have been together for over 10 years,” the golfer said. “So in many ways she has been wife already but then this will formalise our relationship.”

“We had moved into a new apartment on the 24th December but then when I asked her to marry me on Christmas Day she had no idea because she thought that I would never ask her. So it’s good, good for both of us.”

Larrazabal and Gala Alten were photographed together in June 2011, when the golfer won the BMW International Open on the European Tour. He was pictured getting a kiss from his girlfriend, Gala Alten, on the seventh hole during a practice round for the PGA Championship golf tournament at Valhalla Golf Club in August 2014 in Louisville, Ky.
