Harold Varner III is an American professional golfer who plays on the PGA Tour. Varner turned professional in 2012. He started playing on the Web.com Tour in 2014. Prior to playing on the Web.com Tour, he played on the eGolf Tour and Florida Tour.
In 2015, he finished 25th on the Web.com Tour regular season money list to earn a PGA Tour card for the 2015–16 season. Varner is the first African American golfer to advance to the PGA Tour via the Web.com Tour.
In December 2016, Varner earned his first professional golf victory at the Australian PGA Championship, a tournament co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour of Australasia and the European Tour. He is only the second American to win the Australian PGA Championship and the first since Hale Irwin won it in 1978. He also became the third black man to win on the European Tour after Vincent Tshabalala of South Africa and Tiger Woods.
In February 2022, Varner won the PIF Saudi International on the Asian Tour.
Varner played college golf at East Carolina University, where he was the first player in school history to be named Conference USA player of the year in 2012. He was a three-time All-Conference USA selection (2011-12 first-team, 2010 second-team), two-time Golf Coaches Association of America All-East Region player (2010-11) and five-time Conference USA Golfer-of-the-Week.
Varner participated in three NCAA regional tournament. He became the second player at ECU to earn at individual at-large berth to an NCAA regional in 2010, first golfer in school history to break 200 in a 54-hole tournament with a 20-under 196 at the 2010 Outer Banks Intercollegiate, and first player in school history to shoot 65 in a round twice. He was a two-time individual medalist at the 2010 Outer Banks Intercollegiate and the 2011 Georgia State AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic. He was part of four tournament championships teams; the 2009 Mizuno Savannah Intercollegiate, 2010 Outer Banks Intercollegiate, 2011 River Landing Intercollegiate, and the 2012 Seahawk Intercollegiate.
Prior to ECU, Varner attended Forestview High in Gastonia, N.C. He finished runner-up as an individual at the 2007 and the 2008 North Carolina 3A state championships, while leading his team to a second place finish in both of those seasons. A team captain as a senior, he earned Big South 3A/4A Conference individual medalist honors in 2008. He teamed with Champions Tour pro Morris Hatalsky to win the 2007 Wal-Mart First Tee Open at Pebble Beach.

“A lot of older people left after the ceremony. And the reception was a lot of fun because it became a big party, but a lot of close friends. We were super fortunate, but we were going to get married whether it was two of us or 300 of us,” Varner said.
