Oliver Shane Hawkins is the son of Taylor Hawkins, drummer for the Foo Fighters. Hawkins was the Foo Fighters’ drummer for 25 of the band’s 28 years, taking over from original drummer William Goldsmith in 1997.
He played in the small Southern California band Sylvia before landing his first major gig as a drummer for Canadian singer Sass Jordan. He then spent the mid-1990s as the touring drummer for Alanis Morissette before Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl asked him to join the Foo Fighters.
Born Oliver Taylor Hawkins in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1972, Hawkins was raised in Laguna Beach, California. The Foo Fighters drummer tragically died at the age of 50.
In December 2018, Taylor Hawkins’ son Oliver Shane Hawkins was on the drums when his father and bandmate Dave Grohl did a cover of the Rolling Stones track Miss You at a Chevy Metal charity event at Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. Chevy Metal is a cover band featuring Hawkins Sr, Grohl, Wiley Hodgen and Brent Woods.
