Niall Sarhan is the head chef at The Rabbit Hotel in Templepatrick, named the Best Place to Stay in Northern Ireland for 2024 by The Times. He is a contestant on Series 19 of Great British Menu on BBC Two.
Born in Belfast, Niall has a unique Egyptian-Irish background that has helped shape his culinary style. His first experience in a kitchen was working at his father’s kebab shop growing up.
Upon graduating from culinary school, which included one year studying in Egypt, Niall worked under Paul Rankin at several of his restaurants including at the acclaimed Cayenne (*). This experience helped hone Niall’s skills and refine his culinary style, leading him to later become the head chef at the Mourne Seafood Bar in Belfast, named as one of the Top Place To Eat in Belfast in 2014.
He is currently the head chef of the Rabbit hotel, which boosts a 3AA Rosettes rating.

The four chefs competing for Northern Ireland in the penultimate week of heats of Great British Menu 2024 are Lottie Noren, Chef Patron at Edo Restaurant in Belfast; Niall, Head Chef at The Rabbit Hotel in Templepatrick; Colin McSherry, Pop-up chef, Newcastle (County Down) and Melissa McCabe, Owner of Feast Food Truck.
Niall’s calm and collected demeanour, combined with his experience serving hundreds of covers per service, has helped him develop a unique and exciting menu that he hopes will impress the judges, and honour the athletes from Northern Ireland.
