Montell Douglas is a Gladiator and an Olympian. In 2023 Montell was unveiled as Fire in the BBC One series of Gladiators. In 2024 she took part in Strictly Come Dancing. Her appearance at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics in the Bobsledding team etched her name into sporting history as she became the first female UK athlete to compete at both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games.

Born in South London, Montell found her passion for athletics at a young age, qualifying for the Olympic team in 2007. After competing in the 2007 European Athletics Indoor Championships and the World Athletics Championships, it was 2008 that truly defined her career.

At the British Championships, she finished 2nd in the Women’s 100m, but the real highlight came when she shattered the British record at the European Athletics Final with a blazing time of 11.05 seconds. Not only did she smash her personal best by nearly a quarter of a second, but she also broke a national record that had stood unbeaten for over 25 years! That same year, Montell proudly represented Team GB at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics.

Montell took up bobsleigh in 2016 and, just a year later, placed in the top 10 in her World Cup debut. She then made history at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, becoming the first female Briton to compete in both the Summer and Winter Games, with both held in Beijing.

“Well, we are getting married,” Montell jested, causing a wave of laughter from their fellow Strictly members, with Claudia chiming in: “You’re all invited.”

Montell was the twelfth celebrity contestant confirmed for Strictly Come Dancing 2024. The news was revealed on the set of Gladiators filming at the Sheffield Utilita Arena and her bespoke Roblox character was also revealed on the platform on BBC Wonder Chase.

Montell said: “Strictly ARE YOU READY, Fire is here to light up the Ballroom. Wow I am so honoured to have been asked to do the show. It is such an amazing thing to be a part of and I can’t wait to get started. Hopefully a few of my Gladiator moves will come in handy with the Tango or Paso Doble!”

Montell Douglas was paired with Johannes Radebe for Strictly Come Dancing 2024. Asked by host Claudia Winkleman how happy she was with her pairing, Montell said: “How can you not be, I don’t think there is a person on this earth who doesn’t want to be partnered with JoJo, I’m over the moon!”

Claudia then asked what their team name was, Montell and Johannes replied: “Strictly Come Dancing, bringing the MoJo.”
