Matthew Fitzpatrick is an English professional golfer. He currently competes on the European Tour and the PGA Tour. Fitzpatrick previously played on the Challenge Tour. Born in Sheffield, England Fitzpatrick graduated from Tapton Secondary School in Sheffield, England. As an amateur, he won the 2012 Boys Amateur Championship at Notts Golf Club (Hollinwell). In 2013, Fitzpatrick captured the U.S. Amateur at The Country Club with a breathtaking short-game display to become the first Englishman to win the title in over 100 years. The victory earned Fitzpatrick invitations to the 2014 Masters Tournament, U.S. Open, and Open Championship as long as Fitzpatrick remained an amateur.

Upon his win at The U.S. Amateur, Fitzpatrick reached No. 1 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking which earned him the Mark H. McCormack Medal. He also won the Silver Medal as the low amateur at the British Open. In September 2013 he played in the Walker Cup. Fitzpatrick attended the Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois where he played collegiate golf with the Northwestern Wildcats for one semester under coach Pat Goss before deciding to focus full-time on amateur golf, he left in January 2014.

Matthew Fitzpatrick turned professional in 2014 and made his professional debut at the 2014 Irish Open. He later competed on the European Tour, winning his first event as a 21-year-old at the 2015 British Masters. He earned two more titles the following year, including the year-end DP World Tour Championship on 20 November 2016 and the Nordea Masters on 5 June 2016. The victories helped Fitzpatrick earn a spot on the European Ryder Cup team, where he was the youngest player on either side.

Fitzpatrick earned victory at the Omega European Masters in both 2017 and 2018, becoming the first player to successfully defend the title since Spanish Seve Ballesteros, he as well broke the English Sir Nicholas Alexander Faldo’s record to become the youngest Englishman ever to win five times on the European Tour. On 13 December 2020, earned his first Rolex Series title after winning the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai. Matt defeated fellow English golfer Lee Westwood by one shot.

In June 2022, Matt Fitzpatrick claimed his maiden major title at the US Open. He finished on six under, holding off the challenge of Will Zalatoris and world No 1 Scottie Scheffler in a thrilling final round at Brookline.
