Matt Fitzpatrick Biography – Matt Fitzpatrick Wiki

Matt Fitzpatrick is an English professional golfer who plays on the PGA Tour and European Tour. He is a seven-time DP World Tour winner including at the 2015 British Masters, 2016 Nordea Masters, 2016 DP World Tour Championship, Dubai, 2017 Omega European Masters, 2018 Omega European Masters, 2020 DP World Tour Championship, Dubai, and the 2021 Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucia Masters.

Matt won the 2013 U.S. Amateur by defeating Oliver Goss by a 4-and-3 score at The Country Club in Massachusetts. He became the first English winner of the U.S. Amateur since Harold Hilton in 1911. He reached No. 1 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking on the strength of winning the 2013 U.S. Amateur.

With a T44 finish at the 2013 Open Championship and a T48 finish at the 2014 U.S. Open, Matt became the first amateur since Bobby Jones in 1930 to hold low amateur titles at The Open Championship and U.S. Open at the same time.

Matt then matriculated to Northwestern University, where he played part of one season under coach Pat Goss before deciding to focus full-time on amateur golf. He was Great Britain & Ireland’s leading point scorer at the 2013 Walker Cup before receiving the Mark H McCormack Medal as the leading player in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. He brought the curtain down on his glittering amateur career at the 2014 US Open before turning professional at the Irish Open a week later.

Matt gained his European Tour card at the 2014 Qualifying School and shone in his rookie season, finishing runner-up in Crans Montana before claiming his maiden title at the 2015 British Masters supported by Sky Sports. He won twice in 2016 at the Nordea Masters and DP World Tour Championship, Dubai, triumphs which helped secure a Ryder Cup appearance later that year at Hazeltine National.

He claimed his fourth European Tour victory at 23 years and nine days with his win at the 2017 Omega European Masters, and followed that up by successfully defending his title at Crans-sur-Sierre in 2018 thanks to a play-off victory over Lucas Bjerregaard.

He won his first Rolex Series title in 2020 as he won the season-ending DP World Tour Championship, Dubai for a second time and would finish a career-high second on the Race to Dubai Rankings Presented by Rolex.

He earned his seventh European Tour title at the iconic Real Club Valderrama, winning by three strokes at the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters, less than a month after his second Ryder Cup appearance at Whistling Straits.

On June 19, 2022, Fitzpatrick won his first major championship at the U.S. Open, with a one-shot victory at The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts. He became only the fourth Englishman in the last century to win the US Open. Fitzpatrick, who won the U.S. Amateur in 2013, joined Jack Nicklaus as the second male golfer to win a U.S Open and a U.S. Amateur title at the same venue.
