Luis Troyano was a trained graphic designer, beekeeper, and baking obsessive. He was a finalist on series 5 of The Great British Bake Off. His death was announced on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, by his agent. He died from oesophageal cancer at the age of 48. He was popularly recognized for his ingenious designs and was able to achieve some of the most stunning bakes to ever grace the Bake Off tent. Troyano was also a marketing manager with the Salford City Council. In April 2020 the late baker had tweeted about his battle with cancer.
Being a self-taught cook, he had an excessive passion for experimenting with his baking with new flavors and ingredients. According to Google Books, most of his time as a young child, he spent most of his summer in Spain with the family of his mother and was therefore brought up with Spanish and Mediterranean food which influenced his cooking and baking in modern-day. He also thought that his young self was what made him enjoy the chemistry of mixing all the ingredients together and observing what happens. The artistic side of him led him to enjoy perfecting the look and decoration of a bake (his work). Besides running his graphic design business, he was also a writer for his successful blog and ran baking courses at the Seasoned Cookery School in Derbyshire. He had a book that he authored titled Bake it Great: Tips and Tricks to Transform Your Bakes from Everyday to Extraordinary. He resided in Stockport, Manchester, with his wife who survives him.

Troyano’s agent Anne Kibel confirmed his death on Twitter on Tuesday, November 3, 2020. “Sadly, my lovely client lost his brave fight against Oesophageal cancer last week. A fantastic man with a love of baking that saw him get to the finals of GBBO, write a wonderful book, Bake It Great and do so much more. Always in our thoughts.”
