Lucia Scalisi is a Conservator of Easel Paintings and expert on BBC1’s ‘The Repair Shop’. She is a formally trained and qualified Conservator of Paintings with over 30 years of experience both in the Museum and private sectors. She works on large-scale Conservation projects abroad as well as training and project development.
Scalisi began her career in Conservation at the Victoria and Albert Museum in 1984 after receiving a Diploma in the Conservation of Easel Paintings from the University of Northumbria (formerly Gateshead Technical College). She worked for 11 years as a Senior Conservator of Paintings at the V&A, after which she set up a Conservation Studio in private practice in central London.
She was Chief Restorer with the ‘Calcutta Tercentenary Trust’ at Victoria Memorial Hall, Kolkatta, India; Lecturer at the Academy of Conservation in Tbilisi, Georgia; Advisor to The Levantine Foundation/Deir al-Surian Desert Monastery, Egypt; Lecturer in Conservation Studies at London City & Guilds are amongst 21stC projects. Working with the American University of Beirut (AUB) on their inaugural collection is a highlight.
Scalisi has a 2.1 Hons from Sheffield University. She also holds a Diploma in Conservation, ICOM-Conservation (International Council of Museums) and BAPCR (British Assoc. of Paintings Conservators/Restorers).
As an accredited Conservator of Paintings, Scalisi’s practice offers services related specifically to the Conservation of Easel Paintings including the cleaning and conservation of oil paintings on canvas, panel and other supports. Conservation of modern materials including acrylics and alkyds is part of this practice as is the teaching of Conservation materials and techniques.
Her notable examples of work undertaken include the Henry VIII Exhibition at the British Library; large public collections at Westminster City Council; the Victoria Memorial Hall in Kolkata & writing & teaching a Conservation training programme for the Getty Conservation Institute; the American University of Beirut; Lord Mayor of the City of London’s 1757 State Carriage, as well as work with private collections and galleries.
