Lucia Scalisi is a British formally trained Paintings Conservator. She has over 30 years of experience both in the Museum and private sectors. She started her career in Conservation at the Victoria and Albert Museum, in 1984. Which was after receiving a Diploma in the Conservation of Easel Paintings, from the University of Northumbria (formerly Gateshead Technical College). Lucia worked for 11 years as a Senior Conservator of Paintings at the V&A, before opening a Conservation Studio in private practice in London.
Since then, she has been the Chief Restorer with the ‘Calcutta Tercentenary Trust’ at Victoria Memorial Hall, Kolkatta, India. Lecturer at the Academy of Conservation in Tbilisi, Georgia. Advisor to The Levantine Foundation/Deir al-Surian Desert Monastery, Egypt. Lecturer in Conservation Studies at London City & Guilds are amongst 21stC projects. Working with the American University of Beirut (AUB) on their inaugural collection is a highlight.
Lucia has a 2.1 Hons from Sheffield University. She also holds a Diploma in Conservation, ICOM-Conservation (International Council of Museums) and BAPCR (British Assoc. of Paintings Conservators/Restorers). In 2017, she was featured in a new series for BBC 2, ‘The Repair Shop’. Lucia is a regular Paintings Conservation expert, in the show. Some of her notable highlights of work undertaken include the Henry VIII Exhibition, at the British Library. large public collections at Westminster City Council, the Victoria Memorial Hall in Kolkata & writing & teaching a Conservation training program for the Getty Conservation Institute, the American University of Beirut, Lord Mayor of the City of London’s 1757 State Carriage (see below), as well as work with private collections and galleries.
