Lincoln Townley Biography – Lincoln Townley Wiki
Lincoln Townley is an English contemporary artist known for his expressive figurative paintings. Drawn from the artist’s subconscious, the dark and often tormented imagery of Townley’s work seeks to evoke “the chaos bubbling just below the surface of our lives, which drive our desires to succeed and win in life,” he told artnet.
Born on December 27, 1972 in London, United Kingdom, he is largely self-taught. He began to focus on his painting after becoming sober and leaving his original career in marketing night clubs, and has cited his past as a source of inspiration for his early work, which was collected by the likes of Charlie Sheen, Al Pacino, and Russell Brand.
Townley has exhibited internationally, including The National Gallery, The Royal Academy, Somerset House, The Saatchi gallery, and The Brisbane Powerhouse, among others. He participated in the 2019 Venice Biennale and has collaborated with brands like MasterCard and with organizations including the British Academy of Film. He lives in London with his wife, the former ‘Coronation Street’ actress Denise Welch.

Beverley had given birth to Lincoln’s son Lewis six months earlier and the tot was at their wedding in Hertford, Herts.
Their disastrous marriage broke down after just four months when they lost their privately-rented flat because they could not pay the rent – and found themselves in a homeless hostel.
Beverley was then horrified to find Lincoln had secretly run up further debts. She walked out and moved back in with her parents. Her divorce on the grounds of unreasonable behaviour went through in September 1993.
Beverley told Mirror Online: “He wasn’t into drink or drugs or anything. But we had nothing. He could never hold down a job and would always end up having a row with people at work. He worked for a few builders and at one point he said he was going to join the Army but that never came to anything.
“We had absolutely nothing. We would sleep on a mattress. It was awful. To find more debt had been built up – I couldn’t believe it. And that was after we ended up in a hostel because he couldn’t pay the rent.”
Denise recalled in her 2012 autobiography Starting Over how she and Lincoln discussed his marriage to Beverley, writing: “Back then he didn’t have any money, so Beverley went back to live with her mother.
“After that she moved to Spain, making it hard for Lincoln to see Lewis. He used to go over every other weekend. It didn’t last because they were so young.”
Beverley has since remarried and now works as a nursery school teacher.
