I was talking with my mom this morning and she somehow brought up what little names she used to call us. I was the endearing “doll face” and my brother was “pumpkin head”.

“He is SUPER smart, analytical, practical, and could live in the woods for months with just a backpack. He kept me safe and smiling with nothing except for what was on our backs for 4 days hiking trails in the smoky mountains.

“So although I may have gotten the better nickname, pumpkin head got the brainy brains, patience, and life skills to smartly survive anything. That’s all, love you Bro.”

One week before marrying, Kristen posted the sweetest tribute to her now wife: “You will always be my reason to believe in that soul hugging kind of love, the work it takes to grow and nurture that, to meet someone all the way, and to allow space for each to be their own beautiful [and] ‘work in progress’ selves. I don’t believe in luck often but how lucky am I that you chose me. I love you for all of our chapters and the forever, ‘to be continued’ endings.”

Kristen first confirmed her engagement back in September 2019. She wrote at the time, “She said YES to a lifetime of Sunday morning coffee dates and bed head. Engaged. She is magical.”

The two met when Ms. Dusic was the corporate executive assigned to help Ms. Kish open her Austin restaurant in the LINE Hotel in 2018. After six months of intense work side by side, they shared a high-five that lasted a little longer than they expected, The New York Times reported.

Kristen Kish Long Hair

In January 2021, Kristen Kish shared her year-long hair journey. She wrote on Facebook: “A pandemic hit nearly a year ago. I started the self journey of cutting my own hair, found some great clippers. I managed to do the sides. Deceptively so, I had a ton of hair so I could mess up and no one would be the wiser. It went well. I got adventurous (& bored of having the same haircut for YEARS) so I shaved my head, in between filming two tv shows, great timing? It was something I had always wanted to do and successfully rocked it out (in my opinion).

“Maintaining a perfectly & evenly buzzed head is harder than I thought. It’s winter, I wear hats like I always tend to do. I just let my very Asian, straight (unlike myself), coarse, thick hair do whatever it wanted. That was not cute (cue porcupine – fellow short haired Asians know what I’m talking about). I am shaving the sides again as I figure out what to do…unsuccessfully apparently.”

“All [my tattoos] are black ink, and they all came from a place of purpose,” Kish told Inked Magazine. “I like to have tattoos that are slightly obscure, that by the naked eye people might not be able to tell what it is or why I decided to get it. But they have a very personal intent and purpose.”

Her collection includes a woman holding a chef’s knife, a butter knife, a fish skeleton, herbs, a whisk and many more tools of her trade. One of her most memorable pieces is a line drawing of Austin’s Lady Bird Lake, upon which Arlo Grey sits, morphing into the Charles River Esplanade in Boston, a reference to her time at Menton working with chef Barbara Lynch.
