Ko Jin-young is a South Korean professional golfer. She currently competes on the U.S based LPGA Tour and the LPGA of Korea Tour. Born in Seoul, South Korea, Ko started playing golf at the age of seven years old. As an amateur, Ko was among the top-ranked amateur golfers in South Korea as a teenager. Ko turned professional in 2013 at the age of 18 years old and played on the LPGA of Korea Tour.
Playing on the LPGA of Korea Tour Ko has won 11 times, Ko’s LPGA of Korea Tour wins includes; the Nefs Masterpiece, Nexen-Saint Nine Masters, KyoChon Honey Ladies Open, Chojung Sparkling-Yongpyong Resort Open, KG-Edaily Ladies Open, BMW Ladies Championship, Hite Jinro Championship, Jeju Samdasoo Masters, BMW Ladies Championship, LPGA KEB–Hana Bank Championship, and most recently she won the Hite Jinro Championship on October 13, 2019.
Ko joined the LPGA Tour in 2018, during her rookie year she played 25 events and made 24 cuts. On February 18, 2018, she won at the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open, becoming a Rolex First-Time Winner, she joined the late American golfer and former LPGA Tour player Beverly Hanson as the only players in LPGA history to win in their debut as Tour Members. She was also named the Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year, for the 2018 season.
In 2019, Ko played in 22 events and made 22 cuts, on March 24, 2019, she won the Bank of Hope Founders Cup, she also won the ANA Inspiration, the The Evian Championship, and the CP Women’s Open in Aurora, Ontario, all in 2019.
She was named the LPGA Rolex Player of the Year for 2019. In 2020, she played in 4 events and made Four cuts, on December 20, 2020, she won the CME Group Tour Championship and finished first on the 2020 LPGA Official Money List. For her education Ko attended the Sehwa Girls’ Middle School in Seoul, South Korea and the Eunkwang Girls’ High School in Seoul, South Korea, she later joined Sungkyunkwan University, also in Seoul, South Korea.
