Joyner Lucas born Gary Maurice Lucas, Jr., is an American rapper, poet, record producer, singer and songwriter. He was born on August 17, 1988 in Worcester, Massachusetts, United States.
Lucas attended South High Community School in Worcester. He started rapping aged 10 after listening to artists such as The Notorious B.I.G., Eminem, Method Man, and Nas. He started his career recording under the name G-Storm and changed to Future Joyner in 2007. He began working with his uncle, Cyrus tha Great, and formed a group known as “Film Skool Rejekts”.
Film Skool Rejekts released their mixtape, Workprint: The Greatest Mixtape of All Time in 2007.
Lucas released his first mixtape under the name Future Joyner titled Listen 2 Me in 2011. He changed his stage name yet again from Future Joyner to Joyner Lucas after rapper Future rose to prominence.
On April 5, 2015, Lucas released his next mixtape Along Came Joyner. The mixtape contained the song Ross Capicchioni and following the success of the song, Lucas was featured in the 2015 BET Hip-Hop Awards Cypher. Lucas signed to Atlantic Records on September 21, 2016.
