Beth Holtz (Beth Barcus Holtz) was the wife of legendary South Carolina head coach Lou Holtz. She was an entrepreneur and founder of The Tennis Hog Shop in Arkansas. After several years of successfully growing the business to three locations, she sold the Tennis Hog Shop.

In 1998, Beth and Lou founded the Holtz Family Foundation which promotes education, religion, and charity. At that time, Notre Dame recognized her love and attention that she showed to Lou’s players by awarding her an honorary Monogram.

Beth was invloved in charity work. She tended to be behind the scenes and give anonymously with some of her work which included volunteering at the No-One Dies Alone program at the Orlando Regional Hospital.

She graduated from East Liverpool High School as a member of the National Honor Society with the Class of 1956. She studied radiology at St. Francis Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She also took business classes at the University of Arkansas.

Beth Barcus Holtz was the wife of collegiate football coach, Lou Holtz. Beth and Lou met during high school and were married on July 22, 1961 as they commenced a Hall of Fame football coaching career that took Beth and him to Virginia, Connecticut, South Carolina, Ohio, North Carolina, New York, Arkansas, Minnesota and Indiana.

The couple resided in Lake Nona, Florida, where Beth was a member of the Blessed Trinity Catholic Church and The Lake Nona Ladies Bible Study Group where she was the founder and a leader of the group, for fifteen years.

Beth Holtz passed away on June 30, 2020, after a long battle with throat cancer. James E. Rohr Director of Athletics Jack Swarbrick said: “Beth was not only an advocate of our University’s mission and a loving presence in the Notre Dame family, but a wife to one of our coaches, a mom to one of our student-athletes and a supporter of many students through the Lou & Beth Holtz Scholarship at Notre Dame. Our University community mourns the loss of Beth and our prayers are with the Holtz family at this time.”

Former Heisman Trophy winner Tim Brown tweeted: “On behalf of every player who has ever played for the coach Holtz, we send our sincere sympathy and deepest regrets on the loss of Mrs. Holtz. Skip, please tell your dad we all are here for him and are praying for peace for him and the family! Godspeed.”
