John Saxon (born Carmine Orrico) was an Italian-American actor and martial artist. He was best known for his role in Enter the Dragon and in cult films such as Black Christmas and the Nightmare on Elm Street series.
His film credits also include Running Wild (1955), Rock, Pretty Baby (1956), Summer Love (1958), The Reluctant Debutante (1958), This Happy Feeling (1958), In Cry Tough (1959), War Hunt (1962), Mario Bava’s Evil Eye (1963), Otto Preminger’s The Cardinal (1963), Blood Beast From Outer Space (1965), Joe Kidd (1972), Mitchell (1975), The Swiss Conspiracy (1976), The Electric Horseman (1979), Wrong Is Right (1982), Richard Brooks’ Fever Pitch (1985), Beverly Hills Cop III (1994) and God’s Ears (2008).
Throughout his career, Saxon would portray characters of various ethnicities, including a Puerto Rican New Yorker in 1959’s “Cry Tough” and as a Mexican bandit opposite Marlon Brando in 1966’s “The Appaloosa,” a role for which Saxon won a Golden Globe. More than a decade later he played Middle Eastern tycoon Rashid Ahmed on ABC’s “Dynasty.”
