Jacqueline Avant (born Jacqueline Alberta Gray) was a former model, philanthropist and the wife of Clarence Avant, an influential music producer and executive. Jacqueline was the president of the Neighbors of Watts, which supports the South Central Community Child Care Center, and she served on the board of the International Student Center at the University of California, Los Angeles. She was also an entertainment chairman of the NOW benefit auction.

She also worked as a docent at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, developing a particular interest in Japanese art and artifacts and building her own substantial collection of those treasures.

Jacqueline Avant was shot and killed during an apparent home invasion robbery at a Beverly Hills home early Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2021. According to the Beverly Hills Police Department, its communications center received a call at 2:23 a.m. in response to a shooting in the 1100 block of Maytor Place, in the high-end Trousdale Estates neighborhood.

Upon arrival, police found a woman with a gunshot wound, and there were no suspects at the scene. The woman was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, but did not survive. At news conference, Beverly Hills police Chief Mark G. Stainbrook confirmed the woman killed was 81-year-old Jacqueline Avant. Clarence Avant and a security guard were present at the time of the shooting, but they were not hurt, Stainbrook said.

During the news briefing, Stainbrook shared a statement from the Avant family: “The Entire Avant and Sarandos families wish to thank everyone for their outpouring of love, support and heartfelt condolences for Jacqueline Avant. Jacqueline was an amazing woman, wife, mother and philanthropist and a 55-year resident of Beverly Hills who has made an immeasurable positive impact on the arts community. She will be missed by her family, friends and all of the people she has helped throughout her amazing life.”
