Gilma Avalos is an American journalist. She is the anchor of NBC 4 New York’s 6 PM and 11 PM weekend editions of “News 4 New York”. She joined WNBC in 2019. Since joining WNBC, Gilma has covered major stories including the COVID-19 outbreak. Prior to joining WNBC, Gilma worked at KTVT, the CBS Owned station in Dallas, Fort Worth. While there, she anchored weekday afternoon newscasts and delivered breaking news coverage. Gilma joined the CBS 11 news team in October 2014. Before joining KTVT, she served as a multimedia journalist and general assignment reporter at NBC 6/WTVJ-TV in Miami.

Gilma started her journalism career at News 12 The Bronx, where she anchored continuous coverage of Hurricane Irene in 2011. She as well took part in developing the pilot that would later become News 12 en Español.
