Gian Piero Ventrone Biography – Gian Piero Ventrone Wiki

Gian Piero Ventrone was an Italian fitness coach for Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur. The 62-year-old previously held roles at Juventus, Catania, JS Suning, GZ Evergrande and AC Ajaccio.

Ventrone joined Tottenham Hotspur in November 2021 as part of Antonio Conte’s coaching team. He was credited with helping to drive a radical improvement in the players’ fitness. His most famous moment at the club came during the pre-season tour of Seoul when he pushed the squad through a brutal session in 30C heat, leaving many of them collapsed on the turf and some – including Harry Kane – throwing up.

Spurs head coach Antonio Conte has known Ventrone for many years, having worked with him as a player at Juventus; Ventrone was brought in by the then manager, Marcello Lippi, in 1994 and was instrumental in shaping the team that won the Champions League in 1996. Conte played for Juventus between 1991 and 2004.

Ventrone had two spells at Juventus – from 1994 to 1999 and 2001 to 2004. He was a member of Lippi’s staff when Italy won the World Cup in 2006. He went on to work as an assistant manager at Ajaccio in France before returning to fitness coaching at Catania in Italy and Jiangsu Suning and Guangzhou Evergrande in China. Ventrone then moved to Spurs, where he was working at the time of his passing.

Tottenham fitness coach Gian Piero Ventrone died on 6 October 2022 at the age of 62. Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur confirmed his death in a statement.

“We are devastated to announce that Gian Piero Ventrone has passed away,” Tottenham said in a statement. “As lovable off the pitch as he was demanding on it, Gian Piero quickly became a hugely popular figure with players and staff. He will be greatly missed by everyone at the club and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this impossibly sad time.”

“A truly remarkable man,” Harry Kane wrote on social media. “I’m devastated by the passing of our coach Gian Piero. My love and strength is with his family at this time. His words and wisdom will live on with me for the rest of my life and I’m just grateful I had the opportunity to spend time with him. Rest in peace Prof.”

“The world has lost a truly special person,” Son Heung-min wrote in an Instagram post. “Gian, you helped me get through the hardest times, and together we celebrated some some incredible memories. I cannot put in enough words my gratitude to you, and how much I owe to you. We will miss you so, so much. Thank you for everything my friend. I am sending all of my love to you and all of your family.”

Spurs forward Richarlison said: “Since I arrived in Tottenham, Gian has been a huge inspiration to me. He always said that I would help him a lot during the season, that I was a warrior and even that my hair looked like his since I dyed it white. But who helped me was him… and much more than he can imagine. Especially at the beginning, when he said I shouldn’t lower my head under any circumstances, no matter what. Today we woke up with this terrible news of his passing and we are all devastated. But we will continue to play for you, my friend, who taught us to never give up! Thank you so much and rest in peace!”

Juventus described Ventrone as “one of the historic names at Juventus at the turn of the century.” They added: “We will always remember his attention to detail, his work philosophy, and perhaps his greatest talent, the understanding that football – and especially the fundamental components of conditioning and athleticism – was gradually entering a new era. A new era that, in part, he helped write. Ciao, Gian Piero.””
