Franco Columbu born Francesco Columbu, was an Italian actor, author, former champion bodybuilder, powerlifter and World’s Strongest Man competitor.

Columbu left his hometown of Ollolai in Sardinia in the 1960s to go and work in Munich, Germany as a bricklayer. During this time, Columbu began as a boxer where he first met Schwarzenegger. In the 1970s, the pair decided to move to Los Angeles together.

In his later years, Columbu became a chiropractor and nutritionist in Los Angeles. Columbo wrote several books on nutrition and fitness including, “Weight Training and Bodybuilding: A Complete Guide for Young Athletes.” He attained his qualifications at Cleveland Chiropractic College in 1977. Columbu had a Ph.D. from the non-accredited Donsbach University.

During his career, Columbu won Mr. Olympia in 1976 and 1981, Mr. Universe, Mr. World, Mr. International, Mr. Europe and Mr. Italy. His power lifting World Records include: Bench Press 525 lbs., Squat 655 lbs., and Dead Lift 750 lbs.

In April 1979, Columbu made it into the Guinness Book of World Records for the highest lung power. He was able to blow up a hot water bottle until it burst in just 55 seconds using only sheer lung power (that is 28.5 lbs/square inch)!
