She graduated from America’s top culinary institute, the Culinary Institute of Arts. Her mother supported her decision, while her father encouraged her to apply to law schools.
She was first inspired by poor children at her mother’s charity organization. At about the age of 12 or 15, she set up her first food stall at one of her mother’s festivals to raise money for these kids.
Ali left Pakistan at the age of 18 to enroll in the Culinary Institute of America. She watched food television religiously. BBC Food while she was in Karachi and then The Food Network when she moved to the US. At 22, she was a sous chef at Café Centro in mid-town Manhattan.

Right now all I need are prayers; prayers that are simple. I hope, because a wish is putting on too much responsibility on the other, that you will somehow find forgiveness in your big heart for whenever I must have hurt you. I thank you a million times over for when you have given me joy. I’ll try to keep everyone updated the best that I possibly can.”
