David Harper is a British antiques expert, artist, speaker, writer and antiques TV presenter. He is best known for appearing on BBC’s Antiques Road Trip as well as Bargain Hunt. He made his first television appearance in 2005 as a presenter on Channel’s Natural Born dealers. Since then, he has been featured in a couple of Television shows such as “Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is”, “Cash in the Celebrity Attic” and For What It’s Worth. Harper has been featured on programs such as Through the Keyhole and Ready Steady Cook and has presented pieces for The Heaven and Earth Show, The One Show, Inside Out, and Countryfile Summer Diaries.

In April 2010, Harper won the first series of Antiques Road Trip, after raising £2488 for Children in Need from a starting budget of £200. During his early career, Harper was involved in shipping antiques to and from the United States. He later became the director of a British company importing antique style rubberwood and furniture from the Far East. Harper has been surrounded by antiques all his life, he says it’s a family passion, as his parents would always be hunting around antiques shops and auctions. He started collecting coins and stamps at the age of 5 and bought my first antique at the age of 9, a Victorian silver plated basket as a birthday present for my mum.

In 2008, he started painting and in the last couple of years his paintings have been picked up by galleries, Harper says that his painting hobby has become part of his business. He owns homes in Barnard Castle and London.

The antiques expert appeared on Bargain Hunt for the first time in 2005. He resigned from BBC’s Bargain Hunt in 2021. In October 2020, he announced his decision to leave the Antiques game show Bargain Hunt. David opened up about his reaction to seeing his daughter’s tattoo for the first time. “It was just a bit of a shock to me and her mother!” he said in an interview with The Daily Mail. “After I freaked out at the sight of the tattoo, I was furious that after all the money I’d spent on her education, I really didn’t expect her to end up being a free walking advert for the school.”

David jokingly took to Twitter to try and request the prestigious institution refund the tuition fees he paid on the basis that it constitutes as free advertising.

Alongside a picture of the tattoo, he wrote on Twitter: “Dear @barney_school. Here’s my daughter Hetti Harper. Classically trained by your music dept and she was also your head of choir. She’s now becoming a rock star and she’s tattooed the Barney school motto across her chest! Any chance of a school fees refund for advertising? Thanks.”

In addition to the school motto, Hetti has more than 30 tattoos and several piercings.
