Charlie McDowell is an American film director, producer, and author. McDowell’s director roles include; The One I Love (2014), The Discovery (2017), and Windfall (2022). He is the author of Dear Girls Above Me. McDowell was born in Los Angeles, California, and graduated from Crossroads High School in Santa Monica, California in 2002. He attended AFI Conservatory, a film school in the Hollywood Hills district of Los Angeles.

In his debut film, The One I Love, which was starring Mark Duplass and Elisabeth Moss premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2014, just after it was acquired by RADiUS-TWC and released in August 2014. He later directed, The Discovery, starring Rooney Mara, Jason Segel, and Robert Redford. He is the director of the film, Windfall which is starring his wife Lily Collins, Jason Segel, and Jesse Plemons. The film will premiere in 2022. He also serves as the president of his own production company known as Cloudbreak Productions. In his spare time, McDowell enjoys surfing and spending time with his dog.
