Her surgery was performed at Providence Park in Novi on March 19 by Dr. Nishan (Nick) Chobanian, who heads the Department of Oncology and Gynecology at St. John Providence. The doctor’s main concern was cancer because the fibroid tumor was so large. Her husband Greg, one of her daughters and her mother were by her side during her surgery, and my photographer John Ciolino. Her entire pelvis and abdomen were full with the fibroid tumor with the biggest one sitting in the back.
Symptoms of fibroids include: Heavy menstrual bleeding, menstrual periods lasting more than a week, pelvic pressure or pain, frequent urination, difficulty emptying your bladder, constipation, backache or leg pains.
