Carla Stefaniak is a Miami, Florida woman who disappeared while on vacation in Costa Rica. She was reported missing in Costa Rica on November 28, 2018.
Stefaniak was traveling with her sister-in-law April Burton, to celebrate Stefaniak’s birthday. They had stayed at an Airbnb rental in the San Jose suburb of Escazu.
Burton returned to Florida on November 27, 2018. Stefaniak dropped off her sister-in-law at the airport on 27 November. She then reportedly took an Uber from the airport to do some sightseeing around San Jose before she was dropped off at the Airbnb.
Stefaniak had a flight scheduled for November 28, 2018, for which she had checked in and scheduled an Uber. She did not however board the flight.
The Airbnb rental owner and local security guards said they saw her get into an unknown car with her luggage at around 05:00 local time.

A body has been found near the Airbnb property in Costa Rica where Stefaniak was staying. According to authorities in Costa Rica, tracker dogs had found the body partially buried in plastic bags. There is no official confirmation of the identity of the person found.

A Go Fund Me page has been created to help in the efforts of finding Carla. The Go Fund Me page states, “Carla Stefaniak (@Carla Margarita) just disappeared in Costa Rica. Last time we heard from her was 11/27 around 8 pm. She was staying at a villa she found on airbnb. She had a flight the next day (11/28) at 1 pm, but she never showed up. She showed no sign of online presence since 11/27 at 8pm. US Embassy in Costa Rica and FBI is already alerted. They have opened a missing person case and they are trying to work with local authorities. Her family members are going to Costa Rica to try to find her, and any donation will help them in their search.”
