Caleb Reimer was a member of the Edmonton Oil Kings junior hockey team. He was coming off a successful first season in the WHL and was one of several young breakout players on the Oil Kings roster, during their 2020-21 Central Division Championship season. In 19 games with the Oil Kings, he recorded five points (3G, 2A), six penalty minutes, and a +1 plus/minus rating.
Reimer was drafted to the Edmonton Oil Kings in 2019. He was the Oil Kings’ first round, 18th overall selection in the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft, signing his WHL Standard Player Agreement weeks after being selected. Oil Kings Director of Scouting, Jamie Porter said at the time: “Caleb is a big forward with a lot of upside and someone we’re very excited to have him join our group.”
He competed in three pre-season games with Edmonton in September of 2019 before spending the 2019-20 season with the Delta Hockey Academy U18 Prep team of the CSSHL. Reimer earned a roster spot with the Oil Kings in advance of the 2020-21 WHL season. After making his regular-season debut on March 5, 2021, Reimer collected an assist in his second outing the following day. He scored his first WHL goal on April 17, 2021, against the Lethbridge Hurricanes, finishing the 2020-21 WHL season with five points (3G-2A) from 19 games played, as Edmonton claimed the Central Division championship with a 20-2-0-1 record.
The Surrey, British Columbia native was a member of the Delta Hockey Academy Bantam Prep (Green) during the 2018-19 season, registering 45 points (18G, 27A) in 30 games played, including a goal and an assist in two playoff contests.

Caleb Reimer died at the age of 16 on August 21, 2021, in an automobile accident in Surrey, B.C. The Edmonton Oil Kings forward was in a vehicle with two other teenage boys, Ronin Sharma and Parker Magnuson, when they crashed into a tree in Surrey, B.C., around 4 a.m MT Saturday.
The Edmonton Oil Kings announced his death on social media, writing: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of #OilKings 2019 first-round draft pick Caleb Reimer at the age of 16. Caleb was part of our family & will be a tremendous loss in all of our hearts.”
Edmonton Oil Kings President of Hockey Operations and General Manager, Kirt Hill, said in a statement: “I want to express our deepest condolences on behalf of the entire Edmonton Oil Kings organization to the Reimer family and to the families of Ronin Sharma and Parker Magnuson.
“Caleb was a young man with a bright future both on and off the ice. He was a person that you loved to be around, he was a great teammate and a great friend.
“I will never forget the first phone call we had the day we drafted him to the organization and the excitement of Caleb on the other end of the line. We will all remember his first WHL goal at the DCA and the pure joy and excitement that followed in his celebration with his teammates. We will truly miss having Caleb in our lives each and every day. He was part of our family and will be a tremendous loss in all of our hearts.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.”
Brad Lauer, Head Coach of the Edmonton Oil Kings, said in a release: “The last 24 hours have been extremely difficult to find the words to express our emotions.
“Caleb Reimer had a bright future ahead and it was rewarding as a coach to see him develop as a person. Despite a shortened schedule, Caleb showed huge improvement in his first season.
“Remembering his first WHL goal – the excitement that he had, the exuberant reaction from his teammates – it was obvious that in a short time he became an integral part of our group.
“He was one of those kids you love to coach – always a smile on his face and was excited to be part of our team. He was driven to succeed and was an exceptional athlete – a player who makes your whole team better in his presence.
“He will be greatly missed by the coaches and the entire Oil Kings organization. To lose him at such a young age is difficult to process. My thoughts and prayers are with Caleb’s family, and the families of Ronin Sharma and Parker Magnuson, at this tragic time.”
