Bryan Marchment Biography – Bryan Marchment Wiki

Bryan Marchment was a Canadian ice hockey defenceman. Marchment played parts of 17 NHL seasons from 1989-2006 with the Winnipeg Jets, Chicago Blackhawks, Hartford Whalers, Edmonton Oilers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Colorado Avalanche, Toronto Maple Leafs, Calgary Flames, and the Sharks. He was traded to the Sharks in 1998 before being traded to the Avalanche in 2003.

The Scarborough, Ontario native appeared in over 1,000 regular season and playoff games in his 17-year playing career. He tallied 40 goals and 182 points during his career.

As a player, Marchment had a reputation as a hard-nosed defenseman. He was suspended 13 times for hits that injured opponents and tallied over 2,300 penalty minutes.

“People think I hurt opponents on purpose,” Marchment told Sports Illustrated in 1998. “Not true. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want them to feel the hits. I want to make sure they feel them, because every time I hit somebody, I feel it.

“But I don’t want people to think I’m a guy who wants to end somebody’s career. There’s not one guy in the league I don’t have respect for.”

The NHL veteran had been working in scouting and other roles for the Sharks and their American Hockey League affiliate since 2007.
