Brooke Smith is an American journalist who works as an anchor, reporter, and a certified RRCA run coach and yoga teacher. She is currently working as an anchor at WVTM 13 since April 2003 in Birmingham. She was part of a team honored with the Alabama Broadcaster’s Award for Best Daytime Programming for the April 27th Anniversary Special.
Her career in television started after her appearance on a hit reality television series in 2002. After appearing on several national news programs, she made a discovery that she possessed a passion for broadcast journalism and changed her career focus to local television News. She first joined WVTM 13 in April 2003 at Birmingham’s very first on-camera traffic anchor. She expanded her traffic reports by going “Live Around Town” every Monday, featuring local charities, businesses, and area attractions. She also helped produce “Hometown Tours” featuring the wonderful communities and cities in Central Alabama. She was also the entertainment and feature reporter for WVTM 13 News at Midday.
She left the morning and midday shows in 2009 to host WVTM 13’s first entertainment and consumer-oriented talk show, “Daytime Alabama”. She decided to take a break from television after the birth of her oldest daughter, Gracie. She returned to television in January 2011 to anchor a local morning show. She went back to WVTM 13 in September 2014 to anchor the show she first started on more than a decade before with her longtime friend Ken Lass.
She is an ultra-marathon runner with a goal to run 26.2 miles in every state plus D.C. She believes that life is a marathon, not a sprint. Her passion for healthy living leads her to pursue her RRCA run coach certification and her 500-hour advanced yoga teacher certification.
She attended and graduated from the University of Alabama in 2002, where she was a Bama Belle for the football program and a Crimson Courter for the basketball team.
